About the Skanner Building
History of the Skanner Building
The Skanner Building is named for its previous tenant - The Skanner Newspaper Group - The name was chosen to honor both the history of the building itself as well as the decades long contributions of Bernie and Bobbie Foster and of the Skanner Newspaper to the neighborhood and the city of Portland.
The building was built in 1967 as the headquarters for a national chain of funeral homes and was purchased in 1997 by Bernie and Bobbie Foster and housed the Skanner Newspaper for 26 years.
The Skanner Newspaper continues to be published online and to support higher education via the Skanner Foundation Scholarship Program.
The building was purchased in October 2023 by a brother and sister team and renovated to provide offices to small independent businesses. Our vision is to provide a quiet, welcoming and safe environment for our tenants to flourish.
